Building code requiring rooms to have internal windows?

Does a “legal” bedroom require direct interior access?

To be considered square footage, an area (including a bedroom) needs to be directly accessible from the interior of the house. If you step outside of the house and into another space, it is not proper to include the other area as square footage. It can of course still count in the value, but sometimes there is a difference in value between space that is all accessible as living area and detached space. Here are some more thoughts here:
